Man's will is extremely strong when it is necessary to resist, as long as he recognizes something not agreeable to him, but very weak when he is doubtful about what is good or bad for him. Therefore, to overcome all dangers, recognition thereof is also necessary, because then the will also becomes correspondingly stronger. Man has certain inhibitions which appear just when complete resistance or readiness for action is demanded of him. And this is always the influence of evil power, which wants to prevent man from resisting. And to fight such inhibitions, is man's constant task, then also the power-supply from God is not hindered or interrupted, and the will will be strengthened again and again to carry out what is God's will.
The problem of releasing yourself from the earthly bondage when receiving the Word, is still a problem for you. Too many impressions of earthly life still hinder you, and these do not allow the spirit to rise. The world of the pure spirit recognizes your will and your efforts and comes to meet you with help - but they cannot influence this will, and so they must now wait patiently until you detach the thoughts yourself from all earthly things and willingly surrender to them. The will upwards is certainly strong, but it does not yet separate itself completely from the earthly and is therefore an obstacle for effortless reception.
The Lord has set you a great task, for the accomplishment of which an exceedingly strong will is necessary. And therefore a constant fight must be waged against everything that could weaken your will. Only that should be important to you which is useful for this task. Your spirit should continue to strive upwards and seek to unite with God's Spirit, because this alone proves your love for Him, Who has given you this task. Earthly children who want to serve God, must no longer cling to the earth - they must willingly detach themselves and give away everything that seems desirable to them, they must not divide themselves into service to God and service to man, if the latter corresponds to their self-love .... but they should give away everything in order to gain the fullest love of God ..... Give everything .... to possess far more glorious than what the world can ever offer.
Every thought turned towards God, gives man the strength to fight against earthly desires; the will turned towards God, earns him graces upon graces. And he will now also be able to easily detach himself from earth and easily and effortlessly find the connection with the world beyond, if he completely disregards the world and only desires God and His love. For this is man's greatest danger, that he divides his love with the world and it's pleasures. The one must be overcome in order to possess the other. Because with the love of the world, man follows the temptations of Satan, who uses all means to make him turn away from God again.
Therefore, it also requires a strong will to resist, and the stronger, the more tempting the temptation is. Then man must not hesitate for long, he must be aware of the great danger that a defeat in this fight means for him, he must try to remind himself of the treasure he can lose for the sake of that temptation, and this must prompt him to the utmost resistance .... and he must not forget prayer - because if he prays, he expresses his will to do God's will .....
