Positive and negative forces ....

Under the influence of positive forces the development of all beingness has to be an upward striving one, because inflowing power has to lead that what is to perfection. And so the course of development of the being is always guaranteed as long as spiritually mature powers take care of it, while all immature spiritual influences the course of development in a negative way, because then the beingness separates itself from the source of power and becomes weaker in itself, therefore declines. For now a separation takes place in that the spiritual substance joins again with that which had already been its abode before, with matter, which is the most secure means of the spiritually immature beings .... And this connection must inevitably mean separation from the spiritual world, for both cannot exist at the same time. One must always be realized at the expense of the other. Thus, if good spiritual strength is denied access there is also no possibility to ascend, for then opposing forces immediately take possession of the being and pull it down into their realm .... just as, conversely, the being ascends incredibly quickly if no power is granted to those forces, whereas good spiritual strength is desired and therefore also received. Every good thought, every deed of love, every pious prayer and the will directed towards God are requirements of good spiritual strength, thus they already cause the effect of this and thus inevitably already result in the higher development of the being. The desire for earthly good, earthly pleasures, self-interest or unkindness, on the other hand, are unmistakably the work of evil forces; they can never lead upwards, but certainly into the abyss, because they have no constructive but a destructive influence on all beings and can therefore only mean decline for this spiritual being. And so it follows that everything good increases the spiritual in itself, but everything bad has a destructive effect. It also follows that every spiritual endeavour must be successful because the good spiritual is attracted by it, so to speak, and an increase of that which is spiritual substance in itself must take place. For the good strives towards each other, just as the bad seeks to unite, but both paths will be completely opposite, thus must lead to the highest height or the deepest depth, depending on whether the good or the bad forces are allowed access ....
