Agony of naked souls ....
Celebrations on earth ....

At the hour of death, the soul is in extreme distress when it realizes the idleness of it's life, and this hour is then a terrible struggle for it.  It passes through the gate of eternity poor and abandoned, in a pitiful state, because it remembers it's failed life and cannot absolve itself of guilt.  And in this distress, it is often painful what presents itself to the spiritual eye of such souls, if they are unusually honored and celebrated on earth and yet these celebrations can be brought into no connection whatsoever with the exceedingly miserable existence in the hereafter.  All pomp on earth is an unspeakable pain for this soul, since it was to a certain extent the cause for it's worldly striving and thus for it's present situation.

And now this soul goes along in nakedness and extreme poverty, and all festivities on earth which take place for it's sake, cannot give it the slightest relief .... They only fill the soul with anger, and the self-reproaches are so horrible, that it wanders about in an agonizing state.  Only a thought sent after it in love is able to bring it relief, and so the soul only has to hope for relief when it leaves people behind on earth who were connected with it in true love.  Even the smallest work of love which it once did on earth, is a blessing for it, now it is in all nakedness, and if a person on earth lovingly remembers him, it gives him strength, and he seeks a way in it's abandonment, which can bring relief from the dreadful situation.  But the emptier the earthly life was in works of love, the more difficult it will be to find the way to the light .....
