It is a time of inner struggle which the person striving for God has to go through so that his will becomes strong and he finally decides for or against God. For nothing can be won without a fight, and what can be achieved effortlessly is of little value. But the divine gift .... of eternal life .... is so infinitely precious that no effort should be too great to promise this possession. Only a few people use all their will to withstand all adversities of life and yet serve God with utmost devotion, and their perseverance will be a blessing for them, for at the same time their will and love for God will strengthen .... Anyone who wants to reach God over obstacles will also have his strength increased and what he previously thought to be insurmountable will soon seem easy to him.

Only fighting or serving can lead you to the goal, but where you willingly serve, the battle will become easy for you or you will be spared it altogether. But at times you become lukewarm in service and therefore have to fight against adversity and obstacles which cannot be spared you, otherwise the danger of a standstill can occur which would be of great disadvantage for the soul. What is more difficult for the human being to reach often spurs him on to utmost activity, and this is the purpose of such adversities, so that you will not tire or stand still but constantly continue your path of ascent .... and that you appeal for strength so that it can be supplied to you to overcome everything that hinders you on the path of ascent .....

The commandment of neighbourly love often requires a sacrifice of what is desirable to the human being. He must be able to willingly give away what he himself possesses and what his neighbour lacks, he must divest himself of it with joy of heart, he must see his most beautiful task on earth in always giving what brings joy to his neighbour. Then he will experience the same in himself .... it will be given to him .... he will receive what the Lord Himself offers him, be it earthly or spiritual. God will always distribute to the one who distributes to his neighbour. And if the heart is involved in giving, the heart will also be allowed to receive.

Earthly and spiritual gifts, offered with love, will result in earthly and spiritual success .... spiritual success without measure and earthly reward, as far as this is beneficial for the soul. Thus a person will never deprive himself if his love for his neighbour prompts him to give. And therefore hardship and worry would never be represented on earth if every person would lovingly grant help to his neighbour, for God Himself blesses every deed of love. However, humanity lacks the realisation that only love can redeem it.

Self-love is strongly developed and this, in turn, prevents the human being from practising neighbourly love, which is only of value if it is carried out without any self-interest. But most of the time the human being will think of his own well-being and, since he therefore does nothing to gain God's blessing and His love, will have to be pointed out to the wrongness of his thoughts and actions, of his omission, through suffering and adversity and thus provoke adversity and suffering. For love redeems, but unkindness makes the human being unfree and keeps him in the adversary's chains .... God Himself, however, cannot approach an unkind creature and divine gifts can never be offered to it .... thus the human being who only loves his own ego and does not respect his neighbour in need of help, for he cannot receive anything other than what he gives ....
