Love and suffering for fellow human beings ....

Man should love and suffer, so that he may become free from every bondage. For love redeems him, and in suffering man finds God. He thus frees himself from the dark power and consciously unites himself with God, so that he bears all suffering for the Lord. Jesus Christ took all suffering and all guilt of sin upon His shoulders and thereby restored freedom of spirit to humanity. If the human being does the same, if he lovingly takes upon himself the suffering of his fellow human being or helps him to bear it, the state of suffering will be lifted and thus the human being will be given a certain freedom, for he will now be able to do as he pleases.

Every state of constraint is connected with inhibitions which impair every activity .... , the free state, on the other hand, is blissful, since there are no limits to the urge to be active. And therefore the human being should strive to put himself in this free state, to redeem himself through love by controlling the suffering of his fellow human beings and helping to bear it. Love and suffering are embodied in the suffering and death of Jesus on the cross. Only His over-great love was able to take the guilt of sin upon itself with full consciousness, only love willingly took the suffering of people upon itself. For the Saviour's love was exceedingly great .... humanity longed for the divine Redeemer, therefore He took on flesh and blood in order to work among His Own in a recognised way.

He knew about people's spellbound state and sought to help them by suffering for them and trying to guide them to Himself in His infinite love. Through His death on the cross He brought them spiritual freedom, and thus He redeemed them from the spellbound state which had previously been the fate of those who certainly made an effort to lead a decent way of life but were too weak to be able to escape the adversary's power. And the Lord considered them in His love and died the most bitter death for them on the cross in order to restore their freedom by suffering for humanity.

And thus anyone who lovingly remembers the suffering of his fellow human beings and willingly and devotedly takes this suffering upon himself in order to relieve that which is destined to bear great suffering will likewise participate in the work of redemption. Always paying attention to your neighbour with love and trying to alleviate his suffering will result in the greatest reward, the divine act of Salvation will, as it were, be continued, for the hour has not yet come which sets a limit for the human being .... nor can he work without any bondage, nor has both love and grace been placed into his heart by God or made accessible to him, so that he can thus lovingly be active and divine grace also lets him get to know the suffering which spurs his will to be helpfully active ....
