Life on earth is the time of preparation for eternity. If this time is used in such a way that life after death is always thought of and thus life is lived consciously, the human being will shape himself in such a way that he will be able to record a certain maturity at the end of his earthly life, and then this will have brought him the success that he can now enter the eternal kingdom and there fulfil the tasks again which await him. For life in eternity is a perpetual activity; it is not a state of rest but only truly happy when it is filled with constant activity.

If the human being is accustomed to lively activity on earth, he will be able to fulfil every task that is set for him in the beyond, and therefore a busy life on earth is a good time of preparation for the actual task in the beyond. No hour shall remain unused, and the strength from God which is imparted to the human being shall spur him on to meet all the demands earthly life places on him. For one day even more will be demanded of him, and it will only ever depend on his will what work is assigned to him. For now again he is free to be active, only the state of happiness depends on what his will tells him to do. For to be active in the beyond means to receive and to hand out .... To be active means to constantly receive new knowledge and to pass it on, i.e. to instruct the souls who lack knowledge.

Anyone who has already practised caring for others on earth will have a very large field of activity in the beyond, for he will always do what he is instructed to do because love urges him to give what makes him happy and what he constantly receives. He will want to help spread the light, he will be undauntedly active, and love will always underlie all activity, for love is strength which wants to express itself and thus finds expression in active activity. And therefore the human being should never take pleasure in an inactive existence in earthly life, for this will burden him one day and he will hardly be able to integrate himself into a regulated activity which, however, is the epitome of what signifies eternal bliss for the beings ....
