The state of remoteness from God is a state of weakness, even if the human being believes that he is in full possession of his strength and can do with it as he pleases. Yet he will only be able to achieve earthly success .... if this is in accordance with divine will .... but not any spiritual success, and only the latter is decisive for eternity .....

Earthly life will soon be over and earthly success has no lasting value. No matter what a person who is distant from God starts, he will not find the support of the good forces, for they will not give their help to a start which is meant for the increase of matter. But whatever is done in a state distant from God also contributes to the increase of the power of the one who opposes God.

If the human being sacrifices his will, i.e., if he subordinates it to God's will, then the desire has awakened in him to come closer to God, and now he also has the strength to .... His state of weakness is overcome, and the more he surrenders to God without resistance, the more so. He now approaches the original state, the state in which the being was in full possession of the strength from God, but which can never be with a being which has distanced itself from God as the giver of strength.

The earthly change without God can therefore never result in spiritual success for the human being, for there are only two possibilities, to establish the connection with God and thus good forces to receive the strength which is from God, or to turn the will towards God's adversary, which makes the supply of strength from God impossible.

But anyone who does not acknowledge God is far from Him .... and correspondingly closer to the adversary, who will always stimulate him to act against God. And the person who is distant from God also complies with this stimulus .... And thus he voluntarily gives himself into the adversary's power and remains a weak creature, incapable in every way of developing spiritually .... He is completely weakened, and this is his own fault, since he was free to turn to God instead of the adversary and uses his will in a God-opposing way. Being away from God is weakness .... Proximity to God is strength and power .... and the being is free to choose its state ....
